Welcome to the July 2026 Wak Wak Solar Farm update.

TE H2 is proposing to build a solar farm and battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of approximately 2.7 gigawatt-peak (GWp) near Darwin in the Northern Territory.

The Wak Wak Solar Farm is expected to supply competitive, reliable, and dispatchable renewable electricity to existing heavy industry. The project is the first phase of a potential larger green hydrogen production and export project on Middle Arm, known as the Darwin H2 Hub, and will ultimately provide the solar generation for TE H2’s proposed infrastructure and potentially other heavy industry.

Project Updates

Approvals Update

The Wak Wak Solar Farm is progressing through environmental and regulatory approvals, with formal referrals submitted to both the Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) and the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

Under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, DCCEEW has determined the proposal to be a Controlled Action, meaning it requires further assessment and approval before it can proceed. The EPBC referral was on public exhibition until 23 March 2026, and project information remains available through the EPBC referral website.

The NT EPA referral was lodged in January 2026, with the public comment period closing on 5 March 2026. A decision on the level of assessment is currently pending. Project documents can be accessed via the NT EPA consultation page.

Community Engagement

TE H2 has been out and about in the local community in the first half of 2026, with pop-ups in Humpty Doo and a stall at the Litchfield Rural Show. We have heard a mix of constructive feedback and genuine interest from residents wanting to learn more about the proposal. The most common questions we received focused on where the generated power will go, opportunities for local employment, fire risk management, groundwater runoff, and the protection of native vegetation and wildlife habitats. We also received questions regarding traffic and visual impacts. It is clear that the community is highly interested in the extensive environmental and technical studies completed so far, such as flora and fauna surveys and baseline flood modelling. Furthermore, through our interactive polling station at the Litchfield Rural Show, community members have provided valuable input on how they would like to see future community benefit funds directed.

We are continuing our commitment to sharing benefits with the local community through a number of early sponsorships and events.

Litchfield Rural Show

TE H2 is proud to be a Blue-Ribbon Sponsor of the Litchfield Rural Show, one of the largest community events in the rural Darwin and Litchfield region. As the show settles into its new permanent home at the Livingstone Recreation Reserve, our support helps celebrate everything that makes the Top End special — community connection, agriculture, local businesses, and family fun. Across the two-day event, we hosted a stall where a strong number of community members stopped by to learn more about how the project will be developed, ask questions, and share their feedback. Visitors were also invited to take part in an interactive voting activity, casting their vote on how they would like Community Benefit funds from the project to be invested locally. We appreciate everyone who took the time to connect with us and contribute their ideas.

Humpty Doo Community Garden

To support local initiatives, TE H2 is proud to partner with the Humpty Doo Community Garden to deliver a new off-grid solar and battery system, fully funded through a sponsorship agreement. This upgrade will provide the garden with clean, reliable, and independent renewable energy, helping power more events, activities, and services for the community to enjoy.

Cultural Heritage

We recently completed our first round of on-site Cultural Heritage Assessments in collaboration with Traditional Owners. To formalise our relationship and protect the integrity of our partnership, we are currently preparing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Pudukul Aboriginal Corporation, which represents the Wulna Traditional Owners.

H2GP – Palmerston Christian College

TE H2 is proudly sponsoring a team of students from Palmerston Christian College in the Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP), a school-based science and engineering program where students design, build, and race a remote-controlled car powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. This initiative supports local STEM education and gives students hands-on experience in clean energy innovation.
