Our Community
A modern, sustainable and long-term investment in the Northern Territory.
Project Community Benefits
The proposed Darwin H2 Hub aims to be the Northern Territory’s first solar-powered green hydrogen project, contributing significantly to decarbonisation and net zero targets, industry development and the local economy.
Employment
The Darwin H2 Hub is expected to create over 800 construction jobs, 170 full-time operations jobs and third-party contracting opportunities across its expected 30 to 60-year project life.
TE H2 will work collaboratively with the Northern Territory Government and the local construction and operations industries to source a suitable workforce and secure supply chain partners.
Economic
TE H2 will invest $5 billion into the Darwin H2 Hub project, 20% of which is expected to be spent locally. The project will aim to have an 80% local operational expenditure and indirectly contribute an additional $100 million to the Northern Territory economy.
The scale of the Darwin H2 Hub generates significant potential for developing a strong renewable energy industry (including green hydrogen and green manufacturing) within the Northern Territory.
The infrastructure, skills and experience that the Darwin H2 Hub will bring to the Northern Territory will provide crucial diversification within the local economy and support further investment in renewable energy sectors and the decarbonisation of industry into the future.
Environment
The Darwin H2 Hub will contribute significantly to the Northern Territory Government’s goal to establish a net zero economy by 2050. Through the production and export of green hydrogen, the project will support local, national and global decarbonisation efforts by providing an alternative and truly renewable fuel source to industries.
Technology
The Darwin H2 Hub optimises existing technology at an innovative scale that is a meticulous orchestration of advanced components, precision engineering and operational expertise.
The design and operation of a 1GW electrolyser with firmed renewable energy represents a currently unprecedented fusion of technology at this scale.
Community Engagement
TE H2 is committed to engaging with the community throughout the development, execution and operational life of the Darwin H2 Hub.
TE H2 values community input and will undertake an extensive community engagement process within our communities to develop the Darwin H2 Hub project.
First Nations
TE H2 is committed to long-term and proactive relationships with First Nations communities and people as part of the Darwin H2 Hub. The project is already engaging with the Northern Land Council, Northern Territory Indigenous Business Network and the Larrakia Development Corporation.
