The Project

Solar powered green hydrogen to fuel Darwin and beyond.

The Darwin H2 Hub

The proposed Darwin H2 Hub is TE H2’s cornerstone project and aims to be the Northern Territory’s first solar-powered green hydrogen process and export operation.

The Darwin H2 Hub will be a green hydrogen production facility, which will use solar energy to produce more than 80,000 tonnes of renewable-based hydrogen each year.

The Darwin H2 Hub will create 800 jobs during construction and 175 ongoing jobs once operational within the Northern Territory.

It will also assist both Australian and global companies to decarbonise through the use of green hydrogen, and to facilitate industries in a net zero economy.

Project Components

The Darwin H2 Hub comprises 3 major components:

The exact locations of the proposed project components are still being finalised and further information will be made available as soon as these have been confirmed.

TotalEnergies H2 will engage extensively with the local community.

Downstream

The downstream 1GW green hydrogen processing and export facility is proposed to be located within the Middle Arm Sustainability Development Precinct.

The facility will utilise solar energy to produce green hydrogen by electrolysis for global export and will house all processing and export equipment including purified water treatment systems, an electrolyser, hydrogen storage, ammonia synthesis and export facility.

Upstream

The Darwin H2 Hub is proposed to be powered by an upstream solar farm (of up to 4.5GW) and battery energy storage capable of generating 100% of the power required to produce green hydrogen.

Darwin offers a unique climate well suited to solar generation with consistent sun exposure all year round.
